Why visit Jordan
The Kingdom of Jordan is drenched with enigmatic charisma. It is a safe haven steeped in rich history and culture and gives true meaning to immersive travel adventures.
Why we love Jordan
Canyons of the Moon
Wadi Rum is the closest you will actually get to what it feels like sleeping on the moon. The ubiquitous monolithic rockscapes give a sense of place that highlights how fundamentally small we are in the grand scheme of things and it is liberating.
Take a Hike
A wealth of wadis and waterfalls await those who choose to lace up their walking shoes and venture by foot across the undulating terrain. Nature reserves pay homage to the wildlife, especially the rare migrating birds. Whilst the therapeutic hyper-thermal Ma’in hot springs revive and refresh.
The Rose Red City
Atop many a bucket list, Petra dramatically comes into view after a jaw-dropping journey down the Siq. The first glimpse of the magnificent façade of The Treasury takes one’s breath away. To experience Petra at night is a mesmerizing display of effortless grandeur.
Fit for Royalty
Crusader castles and Roman ruins abound. Aljoun and Karak Castle’s dominate in their significance out of the 6 top castles in Jordan, but many others are dotted around the country. From an archaeological standpoint, the ancient Romans certainly left their mark during their reign.
Our Jordan highlights
Bustling Amman is the capital city originally built on a collection of seven hills. It makes for an uncomplicated introduction to Jordanian life and is easy to explore. The impressive Citadel sits on the highest hill offering expansive views over the old neighbourhoods.
A mere 50km North lies Jerash, and the ruins of the ancient Greco-Roman city. The sheer number of colonnades, mosaics and formidable gates can be daunting. But history is brought to life by enthusiastic guides and the gladiator show, complete with chariot racing.
To the south of Amman is Madaba, “The City of Mosaics.” It is here that the best-known collection of Byzantine and Umayyad artwork is displayed. The oldest map of the Holy Land can be viewed in the Greek Orthodox Church of St George. A short distance away is Mount Nebo with its unending views of the “Promised Land” that Moses witnessed over 2000 years ago.
Ineffable Petra. The 3rd Century Nabatean city unlike any other. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, carved out of sandstone and incredulously intact. This lost city which is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World is a labyrinth of archaeological wonder.
Lesser-known Al Beidha, touted as Little Petra, follows a path less travelled and is a sublime prelude to the main attraction and worth visiting.
Wadi Rum is one of the world’s most beautiful deserts. Known as The Valley of the Moon it is a timeless place where nature looms large in the form of natural rock arches, a sea of perpetual red-pink sands and even prehistoric engravings.
The Dead Sea’s mineral-rich warm waters have been attracting visitors for centuries. It is 10 times saltier than the ocean and the lowest place on earth. This buoyant lake shares a border with Israel.
Bethany Beyond the Jordan hails as the locale were Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. This UNESCO World Heritage site attracts pilgrims the world over seeking spiritual connections to biblical times.
At the southern tip of the country, positioned on the Red Sea, is the laidback beach town of Aqaba. As the only coastal city, water-based activities are aplenty as are aromatic cafes and nightlife, alluring locals and visitors alike to this relaxing playground.
